I was called by a neighbour one evening to help fine a sewer line in a house he had bought, dug straight down to it! Next day I was sitting at traffic lights at a roadworks job and watched the guys going along with some sort of modern gadget looking for pipes, I watched for a while at all the head shaking and realised they could not detect anything, so curiosity got the better of me and I parked up and asked if they would mind if I tried. Got a hit immediately, when they dug down it was an expensive fibre-optic cable and their boss had just told them there was nothing and to keep digging. They were real pleased and they all tried but it would not work for them, I was using a forked hazel stick just cut from the hedgerow. Try taking the refill out of two biro pens and bend two 6' pieces of wire equally so they just fit in the pens and hold the pens in each hand about 12" apart with the wires parallel to each other, when you cross water or somewhere the soil has been tracked/dug up the wires will try to point to each other. Let us know your results...... Sam
