OT dowsing for water

Just curious what the general feelings are about dowsing a well location. I had a guy do it for my well and ended up with a great supply of water at 220 feet. Who knows if they would have found it anyhow, but I liked the results.
My well driller was ------ at the location because he had to back his rig in. He would have drilled in my driveway if I let him.
Told me "witchin" it was a bunch of bull.

I've done it myself with pieces of bent rod and also one time with a pitchfork. When the fork bobs and wags it WILL make a believer out of you. No, I don't know WHY it does what it does.

My neighbor does it for people, my grandfather used to do it, and I have done it.

I've seen well diggers drill 3-4 dry holes, then the landowner gets someone to dowse for them, and good water comes in right in the middle of those dry holes - right where the digger said it wasn't possible.

Yes I am a believer and not for just drilling a well. We had to hand dig to find a water line before running a trencher on a job project. Old guy came out with two pieces of bare wire, walked the area a couple times then said dig here. Found the pipe on the first try. It was in July, dry, hot, Virginia clay and rock. he made my day a lot easier.

James Randi has a million dollar check waiting for the first dowser who can prove he's able to find anything. Many have tried, all have failed.

Some folks do have a talent for witching for water and underground pipes..

My neighbor showed me how to witch for some underground electrical cables,, that was neat how the handheld wires spread out when pinpointing the cable location...
BDT/the wanna-be witcher... Something to practice on and then hand down to our grandchildren

I was skeptical when my 85 yo neighbor showed me how to do it but hey all I know is it works for me BUT SO FAR ONLY FOR WATER LINES I can find them dead on as my forked limb really really puls hard down when I cross them. Sure it dont work for others so I cant comment on that, I can only say for certain it does for me. HOWEVER Ive never tried to find a good place to drill a well ONLY water lines..

I have been reading all the other post about dowsing for water. I myself, belive it is some truth about it. Maybe not 100%.

There is an old Cemetery not far from my house on the back roads. I go by it going to my other place. It is not being use anymore. Most grave marker have been moved. Most of the graves are 100 - 200 years old.

I seen A man there several times, I stoped and ask what he was doing. He said I am locating these graves where the grave marker have been moved.

He was useing 2 brazing rods, bend on one end for hand to hold them straight out. Walking slow over A old grave the rods will cross. I seen it work for him.

I can do it and have seen it proven.I type with one finger but will post what Ive learned over the years if any one is interested.

I was called by a neighbour one evening to help fine a sewer line in a house he had bought, dug straight down to it! Next day I was sitting at traffic lights at a roadworks job and watched the guys going along with some sort of modern gadget looking for pipes, I watched for a while at all the head shaking and realised they could not detect anything, so curiosity got the better of me and I parked up and asked if they would mind if I tried. Got a hit immediately, when they dug down it was an expensive fibre-optic cable and their boss had just told them there was nothing and to keep digging. They were real pleased and they all tried but it would not work for them, I was using a forked hazel stick just cut from the hedgerow.
Try taking the refill out of two biro pens and bend two 6' pieces of wire equally so they just fit in the pens and hold the pens in each hand about 12" apart with the wires parallel to each other, when you cross water or somewhere the soil has been tracked/dug up the wires will try to point to each other.
Let us know your results......

Saw it done when I was a kid. Neighbor had a drilling rig on his place. Old man that worked for him came out told them to drill here. Well after a week of three dry holes. They tried where the old man said. Had water that afternoon. Sure was some upset drillers after a week in the nice Texas sun.

Never found a well, but two welding rods bent L shaped and held loosley in my hands pointed straight ahead, like guns swiveled together when I walked over a water line. Works every time.

Witching is a bunch of bull, works as good as random if you care to drill a bunch of holes to test it out.

It is good at making a fool out of a guy with some rods, or wire, or y branches etc!

Dad needed a better well as the old one would run dry quickly but always came back. Ask a dowser to find a well location. He took a peach tree branch and walked over the farm stead and said two veins cross it and told us where they crossed. Dad marked the place and planned to call the drillers. Later he found out that the Farm fuel owner could devine and had him go at it. Got the same results and ended up at the same spot as the other man. The drill company didnt like it but we only drilled one hole and hit good water.

I"ve seen it done enough to certainly believe it. Some people can do it, others not. We had/have several in the neighborhood that do it. I"ve had no luck trying it myself. One day I was making conversation with my well guy about it- got a 10 minute sermon about how his Dad and he knew more about finding water than some quack with a forked stick or two wires. Distant neighbor walked my yard and found the lines. Local Padre offered to find tile lines, wet or dry, when I wanted to add to them. Says he can do it. What, Divine guidance to divining rods?

Do it blindfolded. My brother had a guy couldn"t find a canal when he walked over a bridge with a blindfold on.

I have positive proof that it works.3 times in hand dug wells.3 times in drilled wells.I was in the dug wells and saw the water come in from the direction the dowser said it would.

Amazing all the people who would have a screaming fit and set fire to an Ouigi board if they found one on thier property. Yet they will run out there and witch for water.

That ain't proof I'm afraid. Its been tested many times. Sometimes you get lucky, like the few guys in 100 that has his life saved by not wearing a seatbelt when the others got killed. Some times those few happen in a row.

Ive seen water come into a well from the direction the dowser predicted. He also predicted the flow rate from each stream.Ive seen 3 men select the same spot under an apple tree to drill a well.None of us could see the spot selected by the others. That well came in strong at 60 feet, overflowing most of the year.My uncle could predict the flow rate, the direction and the depth. There are people who cannot dowse.I have dowsed for 55 years.
