Changed the fuel filter on my 99 PSD tonight. When I got done the truck would not start. Found that the 30 amp fuse for fuel heater and injector driver coil was blown. Took the filter back out and the element wire on the plate under the filter was loose and stuck under the plate and I think was causing a short. Unhooked the terminal under the plate and took that little wire out and no more blown fuse, truck runs now. Was that wire originally soldered to the plate at the 3 contact points? Can it be re-attached? Will it hurt to run the truck without that element? Does it heat all the time or just at start-up? Any words of wisdom welcome, thanks.
