Zoysia is slow and it sends out runners. After it's estabilished it will spread over a foot per year. Check your PH. Weeds don't like lime that much. However, if you have a well, you may not want to use 2-4-D to kill the broad leafs. It may take a few years to fill in.
Zoysia doesn't like shade either.
My Zoysia seems to do better when it's dry and the other grass looks bad.
Next year don't cut you zoysia and let it go to seed. Use the sod cutter and loosen up the ground between your strips before you mow the seeds. Zoysia seed is to be planted 90-100 days before frost, which is about the time it makes seeds in Indiana.
