my vote goes for the 4.0 for a few reasons. the main one isnt so much the engine itself, its the transmission thats behind it. The AW4 auto and the AX15 standard are both bulletproof. I cant remember whether its the 42 or 46re that comes behind the 5.2, but i do know its junk. Im big into the offroad crowd and have heard nothing but bad things about that stupid trans. I had one friend that went through the trouble of mating an AX15 to the 5.2 because he got sick of changing the auto trans.
the 4.0 is also better one fuel but has just as much get up and go to it.
That being said, i have blown up a few 4.0s, but that was from being ABUSED HARD!!!! and when i say hard, i mean hard. i hydro locked one and the #6 piston didnt like it so it made and exit out the side of the block and i continued to wheel for the rest of the day on 5 cylinders.
I say go for the 4.0 and if possible, the AX15 and u will easily clear 20mpg mixed driving.
