All - Getting ready to tear down my 550 for clutch replacement as planting is done. I have read about this, done much research and just about ready to begin. Looking at the process I see I will need an xtra set of hands to seperate the rig, balance the front end after seperated and realign both halves during reassy. Pls provide comments to my "redneckin" tool I will be building to assist me. Look at this pic and tell me ways to improve. My plan is to build this out of 3" half-inch channel iron, weld a 5/8" grade 5 nut on bottom, thread in a 5/8" x 5" bolt for vertical adjustment. This device will be bolted to front half of the tractor (L & R sides) using existing FEL bolt holes or other factory holes of the front frame. It is my hope that this will prevent the front end from flopping over (no overhead hoist) and once split rear will be manuvered out of the way and back into position after clutch replacement using a rolling floor jack.
