It"s a controversial topic. I hestate to get into it as there is no way to avoid getting somebody offended.
Best I can say is the flywheel will not stop in the same spot all the time. This will spread starter engagment wear around the ring gear. There are a pile of ring gears out there that look almost new except for a few teeth.
