Your suggestion of externally adjusting vertical shaft end play caught my attention. The only play my Super A steering (similar) has is through about 1/8" of vertical shaft end play. Others have said that internally there is no adjustment. Are you suggesting a washer or something between the pitman arm and the bottom bearing (or housing)?
