I don't know if the A is the same as the Cub. I am sure neither has provision for adjusting the spacing of the gears, only shaft end play. The vertical shaft in a Cub is sort of adjustable for end play. The bottom of the worm gear rides on a bronze surface. The top of the steering lever rides on another surface that is on the bottom of the steering box. The distance these two are apart determines end play in the vertical shaft. There is a nut on the bottom of the shaft that will pull the lever up toward the box(while the clamp bolt is loose). I would pull it up as much as possible and then back off a little to eliminate binding. Then make sure the clamp bolt for the lever is TIGHT! Of course, this will be useful only if the A steering box is similar.
