12volts for '55 300

I have a Farmall 300 and I'm trying to convert to 12volts from 6volt pos. ground. I have battery, new 12 volt coil (with proper ballast resistor), 12 volt starter silenoid, and 12volt volt. regulator. Mechanic at farm store says generator will charge at 12volts with this new regulator. Question is generator is pos. ground....would I be best off to leave it so with the new 12volt system or can gererator be reversed?????
