Unless your original spring is broken most likely replacing it will make no difference. On the original seats the pivot bolt and the holes get worn so that the pipe touches on the platform so the spring is not able to provide any suspension. There have been cases where the seat support has been worn so much that it has broken off the tractor.
I have seen at least three different adapter bushings used with temperature gauges When you get a new gauge it should come with the correct bushing to adapt it to the head.
