I"ve never seen an original pair that had any chrome chipped off or damaged enough to worry about it but saying that if you were inclined to it would probably be better to get them re-chromed. or better yet you can go get some chrome polisher with a buffer wheel and shine them up. if you wanted to paint them i would scuff them up a little and then paint them so the paint would stick. I wouldn"t recommend that though. I"m sure that the chrome paint would come right off in a year or two. I would go with the polisher and if you need to rebend them just bend it slowly with your hand. Thats what I did. Hope i was of some help
