The octane rating for gas was probably real low back in '42. Thats why so many tractors have such low compression ratio compared to engines made today. 8.5 to 1 is about what you see most of the time now and that's good for 87 octane. Your M started out with 5.65 to 1 compression pistons and 6.87 to 1 was one of the options. Might as well ante up and get the higher compression pistons. Do you know what the compression ratio is on these new pistons?
