Farmall Cub carb. problem

Put a new clutch and painted my g-dad's Cub. I took the carb. off, set it on the work bench. After finishing the tractor, re-mounted the carb. and she started leaking from the drain hole at the mouth of the intake badly. Took it back off, checked float and needle valve; all looked OK. Put it back on, stiil leaked badly after shutting tractor off. Bought a new check valve kit. Still leaking badly. Float height was checked at the shop. What am I missing? His original IH carb. had gone bad years ago and was re-placed with a Zenith. I need help with this one, its breaking me.
