If your seal is in a carrier bolted to the housing, you can take the carrier off and not use it. The alternate seal IH provides fits directly into the housing without the carrier and moves the seal back onto an unworn area. On the other hand if you don't have the carrier, you could get one and move the seal out. Either way the seals are different. I hope this is clear as mud. I working on one now myself. Don't loose the "sleeve" a new one is $135.00 from CNH. Daniel
