A crunching noise isnt good. I would drain a little hydraulic fluid and look for any metal pieces. If the oil looks good, then most likely the pump is still good, but not necessarily. I myself would crack open the output hose of the pump and see if any oil coms out while the pump is running, Might also, try loading it up by trying to raise the lift. If the oil increases in leakage through the cracked hose, the pump would seem to be good and the problem is in a control part of the system. For troubleshooting that, well I dunno what I'd do then, try dif vavles. I dont know the particulars of you system, and am far from an expert, so I'm not of much help
