Thomas, you are at the right place to figure it out. You are probably going to get a lot of opinions, but where I would start is timing. You say you have compression, but is it on the right cycle to your distributor and wire arrangement? You need to make sure you first have #1 piston TDC (Top Dead Center)on the compression stroke(#1 is the closest to the front of the tractor). To do that, remove the spark plug from #1 and place your finger over the hole, turn the crank over, either with the fan belt or someone else turning a hand crank,until you feel compression pushing against your finger. As soon as that pressure stops, you should be TDC. As I have a Cub & a Super C, I can't remember whether the timing mark is on the flywheel or there might be a pointer on the belt pulley, but you should be close on either one. Firing order is 1-3-4-2. Are you sure you have your plug wires in the right sequence (1 is approx. 2 o'clock, 3 below that, the rest in clockwise order)? If you get TDC, with the spark plug wires in the right order, it should start, maybe run rough, and then you can adjust the distributor by loosening the two cap screws attaching it to the governor housing and twist the distributor to best run.
