David, The control rod comes in 3 segments. The front attaches to the shuters, then into a square brass block, called the control rod carrier (bottom). From there a straight rod with a stop screws into the same carrier (top) behind the stop there is a bracket that bolts to the rear generator mounting hole on the engine block. From the rear gas tank mount there is a mounting bracket from which the rear control rod feeds in from the rear, and connects with the coupling. YOu will want a washer on either side of the rear bracket and insert cotter pins to keep the rear control rod stationary. From there it is a mater of making sure everything clears the carb (rear) and the air cleaner body (rear). It all fits but clearances are close. Let me know how it all goes, as it is sometimes difficult to know if the instructions are recieved as they are meant to be.
