I have a 1947 IH I-4 tractor with a working 6v generator. However, the engine will seldom start when on a (new) 6v battery. A 12v battery works great. I would like to keep the positve ground system and convert the generator to output a high enough voltage to charge a 12v battery. Is is possible to do so? The generator is a Delco-Remy with the "voltage regulator" mounted on top of it. The "voltage regulator" only has a single relay. Is that only used to connect the generator to the battery when running and disconnect when not running? The generator and wiring match the parts shown in a parts manual for the system without lights. Help!
