farmall a start switch/rod help.....

im restoring an a and am not sure about the start switch, mine switch mounts near the front of starter. i was missing rod and switch, and got a corrrect rod for an a and bought a new switch for a super a thinking its the same, but when i bolt it up the it rod would have to be pushed to start not pulled is this normal? or do i need a starter with the switch toward the back like a super a style? are a and super a the same starter and switch? any help would be appricated thanks all...
