My 1953 Cub is running a little rough. Under load it sounds like it's trying to burn bad gas but the gas and carb are clean. It coughs whenever I'm either pushing heavy snow or sometimes just using the hydraulics. It never stalls and since I've been having the problem I've cleared a few feet of snow, but it still just doesn't have it's normal power/sound. In places I would normally use 2nd gear to plow snow, I now need to use 1st otherwise it will kick and sputter. At slow idle, the engine almost sounds perfect, but you can still hear a slight roughness/pop out of the muffler, and the exhaust seems a little smelly. It starts on a dime, and all basics, like oil, are perfect. Is this a timing problem, can I fix it myself or should I hire someone (I'm handy but not too experienced with this engine)? Could it just be the spark plugs? Many thanks!
