Fred - I have no first hand experience with 6 volt alternators. However here's a couple observations: 1 - A 6 volt alternator conversion should provide most of the benefits (improved reliability, reduced maintenance and low RPM charging ability) of a 12 volt alternator conversion. Also you can reuse your existing 6 volt battery, lights, etc. 2 - Downside is cost ($80 - $110+) for a 6 volt alternator (vs <$40 for an equivalent rebuilt 12 volt unit). Keep in mind also that 6 volt electrical loads draw TWICE the current of equivalent 12 volt loads (i.e. a 35 amp, 6 volt alternator will power only HALF the number of headlamps as a 35 amp, 12 volt alternator). Finally, you still have a 6 volt cranking system with a 6 volt alternator. I too would like to hear comments from someone who has actually installed/used a 6 volt alternator! ...Bob M

Fabricating Sidesheets - by Chris Pratt. The easiest and best first-time project for wanna-be sheet-metal workers like myself is flat or nearly flat metal cut and drilled to be a tractor's sidesheet. A sidesheet is sheetmetal to cover either the engine as in the case of early Oliver's, Massey-Harris' and many crawlers or the wiring and electrical components as in the case of the Massey-Harris Pony, Allis Chalmers' D Series (D-14, D-15, D-12, D-10, D-17, and D-19). The need for fabricating becomes obvious when you go to buy any of these
