Thank you gene, really shouldn't matter which way that coil is hooked up it being nothing more than a transformer. I have discovered this am that I have drain on battery soon as I couple it up, switch off. I removed the starter, then starter switch and discovered someone has decided to dispence with the two plastic shields inside the starter switch. That may or may not be creating short. Hard to tell when assembled. I guess I should couple system leaving starter unhooked to see if I still have short elsewere. What are the chances of the regulator causing short considering battery was hooked neg ground for a time? This tractor is a 1963.
