I had a similar problem with a 1943 Farmall A...gas would leak through a weep-hole in the bottom. I got a rebuild kit at a local NAPA dealer. The kit did not include a new float, just seals, o-rings, gaskets, jets, valve plug for the float...I think that's it. Since the rebuild I've had gas leak from the same place...float sticking. I'm restoring the tractor for routine use. It had been idle for many years, and the gas had turned pretty bad...smelled like turpentine. For simplicity I mixed fresh with the old, and have been running it since. Now that the old gas is completely gone, haven't had a float-sticking problem. If you pull the carb to rebuild it, just follow the instructions for float adjustment. Clean it well to get any sticky, varnishy substances removed, and you should be ok. Good luck.
