We have a 140 that we had to replace all the bearings and whatnot in it. After it was REALLY loud, especially in 4th gear. There was alot of gunk stuck to the sides of the housing, someone told me they used to put sawdust in them at the factory to quiet them, I don't know if this is true or not, but we cleaned it all out. As long as everything was reassmembled correctly, nothing is wrong. Ours sounds like a growling/echoing sound kinda. It lessens after a few years of alot of work, that and you get used to it.
