I have tried both on my '47 H and I have found that a stainless steel straight pipe (about 2ft long) sounded like @#@! on an H. Now Im young and I like my noisy cars and things and the sound from that was terribly annoying, it made my tractor sound like it was running rough. Now the moment I'd slip on that muffler it sounded fine, you will gain about 2-3hp with the staightpipe perhaps even 4hp. If you want a strighpipe I would suggest trying a different piece of pipe other than stainless or maybe if the pipe was longer it would sound alot better, I'm not sure but I would like to hear what others have tried. My .02 cents
