The 8V was to increase the starter speed & give more starting power to tractors than the 6 V. Bigger Sleeves & pistons, More compression, etc. all made for starting problems when these tractors were used daily. I'm more used to Allis-Chalmers tractors having 8V batterys. My Super H was converted to 12V alternator 10 years ago and NO WAY would I change it back. Haven't had any problems with it and it starts mostly in the winter to push snow. As far as changing "What Was Original", My Grandparents pumped water by hand on the farm, But that don't mean I AM. If there's a better way, USE IT, Everyone that used these tractors back in the 40's & 50's did.
