water in M transmission

Today I discovered water and some #90 oil in the M rear end that I'm working on, grease was dripping out from around the brakes and other places, it's been sitting for years the grease looked good and the water looked like water (not creamy and mixed) I'm not at this point considering anything other than letting it drain for awhile and filling it to the proper level. I suspected this problem last winter while attemping to pull it into the shop one cold day, anybody delt with this before?
