Gene, I'm assuming that you have a 12 Volt negative ground system. Those readings look about like I would expect. With the switch off the jumper will not have an effect because there is no current flowing. With the switch on, without the jumper, the resistor is dropping 4.88 volts. With the jumper on the drop is about 4 volts less. To put it another way, you get about 4 more volts across the coil with the jumper on. About 8 volts across the coil with no jumper and about 12 with it. That means that you have 50% more volts on the coil primary and that relates directly to a proportional increase in secondary (high voltage side) volts. It also appears that the points were closed when you took your readings. Yes, those readings make sense to me.
