I"ve got a 30 ft 14000# trailer and I need to instal a winch heavy enough to pull on 10,000 # dead tractor---what you guys usin" and what do they cost??? Electric? Hydraulic?

Rolling weight is pretty easy to get moving. A hand crank 2 speed boat winch may work.

I did see that China Freight (oops! Harbor) has 2000# winches for 50-60 bucks. That and a spare battery will get the deed done.

Here is a link to a picture of one I made for almost nothing since we had a bunch of old sprinkler parts out in the junk pile. It only cost me a starter motor to turn it over...

It really works great. I've loaded a lot of tractors with it. I replaced the cable shown with sprinkler tow cable shortly after I got it working. I've pulled the sprinkler tow cable in two once... This has an unreal amount of power...

Dave, I have a 2500# rated electric winch on my trailer. It's a long story on how I acquired it, and I didn't think it would ever be useful, but believe it or not, it will pull a dead Farmall H onto the trailer. I've never tried loading anything heavier, but I think I could by using the pulley block.

If you are wanting a winch that will hold up for the long haul, Burdens has the good ones.
