Why or How did I-80 get built in Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska and not be a toll road? The States got Federal money to build and maintain the Highways, so what did Indiana do with there share? I understand Pennsylvanias' turnpike being toll cause it was built in the thirties, but this modern toll business floors me. Even Kansas has I-35 as a toll road!

hang on to your socks if that idiot from chicago we have for governor gets his way the interstate highways and lootery (it is a scam) will be turned over to furin firms. then ALL of interstate highways will be toll roads. he is such a big crook the dems even hate him. his latest idea is to tax rest of state to keep chicago transist (buses and trains) system running.

Just a few samples of where the interstates "camped onto" existing toll roads, rather than building new parellel roads. High mileage users such as trucks& busses have to keep track of tolls paid & get credit against their fuel taxes. IIRC,high mileage car drivers can do the same, but it isn't worth the paperwork.
I-80 across In & Oh follows the old Indiana Toll Road & Ohio Turnpike, built before the National Defense & Interstate Highway System was formed. I-80 in Il was a new road built by the Interstate system. In Il, I-90 follows the old Il Northwest Toll Road from Chicago to Beloit, I-94 follows the old Tri-State north to Kenosha. In Ks, I-35 from the Ok line to Emporia, 335 to Topeka, then 70 to Kansas City follow the old Kansas Turnpike. I-35 from Emporia to K.C. is free. In Ok, I-40 follows the old Oklahoma Turnpike. Clear as mud, but it covers the ground.

You (or someone) voted for politicians that spend money on social programs and other "Entitlements" and that money has to come from somewhere. They (the politicians) steal the money from gas tax revenues, etc and then whine that there is no more money for the roads. Pretty soon, you have toll roads generating huge profits for foriegn companies!

I say kick out the (insert party name of choice)!

I agree with you. There is talk of toll roads here in Alabama. The way I see it we are already paying gas taxes for roads and with toll roads private investers own them. It's just another form of a tax that the politicians get out of being responsible for. The second point is these companies will probally kick in big bucks to the politicians campaign coffers where your everyday taxpayer don't. I think that's why there's such a big push to do it from the politicians standpoint.
