Mark, I have two Balzers in the family, 200, and 2001 - both will start and run with a hardware store copy of the ignition key - no chips, resistors, etc. Is yours equipped differently? Or is ours the oddball?

Ray,

I don't have that vehicle anymore, otherwise I'd go check the manual, etc. It was the fully loaded LT version, if that makes any difference.

All I know is that when I took it in to the dealer and explained the problem, the service manager immediately said "ignition switch". I thought he was crazy, but we never had any problems after they replaced the switch.

The key for the newer Passkey systems isn't distinguishable from a regular key, so I can't say for sure that it had a passkey. I do remember reading the manual, and it seems like everything the dealer said made sense.

Is it possible you had remote starters installed on these cars? I think they have to bypass the Passkey system to make a remote starter work.
