Silicone Brake Fluid Myths.... Here we go again!

Here we go again spreading around the Silicone brake fluid myths. How, when, and where does this water that settles to the low spots get in the system????? And whoever ever suggested flushing it annualy..... THINK FIRST..... If there was actually any water settled in the low spots, flushing is NOT going to get it out. Ever notice all the bleeder screws are on the TOP of these things you are flulshing and you claim water has settled to the bottom ????? ARGH!! If some of you dingbells had any COMMON SENSE you could figure out this stuff on your own!!

I replaced ALL the brake components on my 1976 vitage car about 6 or 7 years ago and installed DOT 5 Silicone Brake Fluid. It works just the same as the old Dot 3 stuff. The system has not leaked a drop anywhere, I have never had to add any ever, and when I remove the top of the master cylinder the fluid is just as crystal clear purple as it was the day I installed it. I can see all the way to the bottom of the master cylinder reservoir and see the rough finish of the cast iron. There is NO rust inside anywhere and there is NO WATER in the system.

If the DOT 5 Silicone fluid is so problematic then tell me WHY it is used in small air craft brake systems????? ?????

Oh, yes, I have read the Silicone fluid has a slight spongyness to it and that DOT 3 does not and this is why it is not to be used in ABS systems.

Jake: I might go with DOT5 did you notice any sponginess after you switched over?
