I grew up with 3 bottom trailer plows, a wheel lift converted to hydraulic (always broke the lift arm)and a late model hydraulic lift with the tail wheel the same size as the fronts. If you look at a 2 bottom trailer and then a 3, then a 4, you see you can add the extra bottom by putting on another frame loop. In fact, my current 2 bottom has enough axle spread to take 3-16's and our 3-16 (48") will easily take 3-18's (54") or 4-14's (56"). The ability to keep the tail wheel in furrow and get the frame loops between the main wheels (on the wheel pivot shaft)is the limit. Most of the plows used the same frame loops and used spacers to adjust to the bottom width, so so taking out all the spacers might let you do it. I'd have to have a factory 2-14 to measure and see if it would work without stretching the wheel shaft, but even that's not hard to do.

IF you ran 14's you might be able to get 5 frame loops between the wheels. 4x16=64" 5x14 = 70" 4x18=72" which would use less metal in frames, which is why the factory built them instead. So the way to build a 5-14 would be a bunch of 14's already available (like the 2 bottom and 3 bottom from a 70 and an 88). By time the power needed for that extra bottom became available the semi-mounts and pipe backbones were coming out.

This is to D13. I know about the being able to convert plows but you have to be able to adjust the land wheel to be on the outside of the rear bottom or you have a very uneven plowed field. Dad was down today and we talked about that old plow. Plus a few other things from when we farmed. I found that this plow started as a four bottom. The dealer unbolted the rear bottom to sell Dad a three bottom. The part that is confusing to my brother and I is both of us remember a different backbone. I remember a retangle, he remembers a pipe. We both agree on it was great pulling plow. So I really like the help I have been getting trying to chase down any possible help. Again thank you and may your new year bring your wishes alive. Carlton
