Will overhead valve pistons fit in a ZA?

I'd like to build a ZA for pulling and I'm wondering about using pistons from a 220 overhead valve motor that I've got. The ZA engine will need to be bored anyway. The 220 motor was running before I removed it from an offbrand tractor. I'm thinking about taking it apart and using the 3.75" pistons for my ZA project. Does anybody know if this will work for sure? Is the pin offset the same? Thanks, Zack.

"Offbrand tractor?" well you can make about anything fit in anything if you either have your own machine shop of loads of cash.

If its a MM 220 engine, I am thinking that the 220 MM pistons I have seen have a shorter compression distance than the ZA. So if you put them on the ZA rods they won't come up to the top of the bores and you won't have near as much compression. You may be able to use the 220 rods, They should be longer to compensate for the shorter compression distance of the piston. I know they will fit on the crank, but I don't know if you will have any other problems.

I am thinking that someone said Welters sold 3-3/4 pistons (Or was it 3-3/4+.060?) that would work on the ZA rods.

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have clarified. Yes, it is an MM 220 engine that was shoe horned into a Massey 44. I think I read somewhere that the connecting rods are the same in the overhead valve 206 and 220 as they are in a ZA/ZB. You are correct though, if the pistons are a shorter compression distance, that would create a problem. I might contact Welters about their pistons.

If your rules would allow you to run the overhead valve engine 220 that would be the way to go.

Sounds like a big cluster to me. Might be better off to just pull a Garden tractor or John Deere H. Why dont you just give the tractor to me and let me haul it to scrap.
