Hi, anyone have any experience with the pressure control valve on a 6030 ? My tractor hydraulics started to "judder" when first used in the morning and also the steering took a little to get up to speed. After say 10-15 mins everything is ok except a kind of hissing/whining noise coming from the PCV. The tractor has new oil and filter and the screen filter is ok too, the pump flow and pressure are all whithin the specs in the shop manual so I took the PCV off and stripped it and everything "looks ok", Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance !

Chris, There are some steel lines along inside of frame rail but those usually pump oil everywhere when leaking. You should check hoses and lines for leaks and air could be sucking in on some. Some of the steel lines inside frame are also a real PIA to get to and I remember just replacing those with hydraulic hoses built up to fit and solved leak problems. Didn't you replace the steering cylinder seals a while back? Those can suck air in too but are usually pumping out oil also on other stroke and when hoses leak very visible also. Do you just have the I&T or JD manual? The PCV pressure control valve under dash on 6030 is a flow divider valve that insures pressured oil to brakes and steering regardless of other hydraulic demands. It may just need air bled out or could be caused by brake or steering system problems also. If no or slow hyd. functions: PCV adjusted too high or PCV stuck in priority position. If no steering or brakes: PCV spring broken or (PCV) pressure control valve stuck? There is a separate orfice that fits in the inside body of pressure control valve on early models and orfice is made into valve barrel on later models. If and when removing it relieve system pressure first. Then after removal and disassembly check for wear or damage, burrs, scoring or plugged orfices. Spring should not be bent or have broken coils. Spring should compress to 3.50 inches at 44 ot 55 pounds. Info from the 6030 TM1052 manual.

Check for small hose leaks under the hood, by the oil cooler, that could allow air to get in when it's shut down.

I'm not sure, on a 6030, what else is involved in the oil leaking back from the front pump.

What do you mean by "PCV"?

Do you mean the hydraulic valve/coupler assembly, "SCV"?

If so, and there's a noise there, it means one of the valves is not seating, due to either damage, or the need for adjustment.

Bob, On the 6030 PCV = pressure control valve. It's just a hydraulic flow divider valve that is suppose to help keep oil pressure on the steering and brakes during other hydraulic functions. The 6030 uses two external steering cylinders on it.

OK, basically the same setup as the steering priority valve on a 4020, etc..

Yes, kind of the same thing. Sometimes crud in the system can get past a relief valve at filter and get in system and plug the PDV orfice or Chris could also have some steering cylinder hoses or others flaking off inside plugging it up too? Strange things happen on 30+ year old tractor.

Or, a 40 year old tractor... did you see the 2010 thread, about what I am dealing with?

I'm not familar with 2010 inards but if it's working now maybe just leave it alone hoping for the best but can understand the worry too. Hopefully nothing got in the pump and if did it just might not put out as much pressure.
