I don't know where you get your diesel motors from but where mine come from they don't include SPARK PLUGS! :-) I share your frustration with chain parts. If I want an oil fitler for a 302 Ford why can't they just grab an FL1 off the shelf without asking about AC, PS, PB, PW, CD or Cassette, Etc!?! Go Deere! I never cease to be amazed at what they still have available. Price isn't that bad. Deere sells their Chinese bearings for about the same price NAPA does.

Absolutely. I just did some work on a '99 Ford F-250 Super-Duty for a guy. Had to pull the head to put spark-plug thread inserts in it (yes, I know it can be done ON the engine, but that's how he wanted it). I did business with a couple different parts stores while gathering supplies. Every time I was asked "four-wheel drive or two-wheel drive?". Like it makes a difference. The thing is that seeing as how they have to hire just about anyone with a pulse to work those parts counters, they have to make (or attempt to make) an idiot-proof flowchart to try and determine the correct part. And most times they don't get that right. Every time I go to get u-joints for my '72 Chevy C-20, I specifically tell them it's a 3/4-ton, and without fail, they'll pull 1/2-ton parts. When I swapped in the coil-sprung Dana 60 rear axle out of a 402 truck, they swore up and down that only leaf-spring trucks had Dana 60s, and this is while I was looking for brakes. I told them to just get me the leaf-spring Dana 60 brakes then, lol. I think I could back the darn thing through their front window and park the rear axle ON the front counter and they still wouldn't believe I have a coil-sprung Dana 60 in it.
