Don't know for sure on your problem but I have heard those poppits can cause some problems. I just rebuilt the lift control valve on my JD 2280 windrower and it was a snap. It now lowers so smooth its a smooth as silk. It was dropping like a rock. The orings were hard as those same rocks as well. It was also missing the slow drop orifice as well. Its in there now and working so good. My thinking is your going to need to rebuild that lift valve and your problem should be solved, but no guarantees?????

In the hydraulic control valve, there are some nylon poppets that have a metal pin sticking out of them, that do not allow the head to lower unless there is flow from the hydraulic pump (engine running). Something may be damaged in that area, or there may be foreign material stuck in the valve somewhere.

Would there be any quick connectors in any of the lines, if so the spring in the connector on the presure side will be week .Oil will pass through under presure but will not return. had this to happen to me on a disk , took a while to find it.
