I used neighbors discbine untill I bought the 477. They have one with flails instead of rollers. Don't think anything would stop that machine! I would like to get a discmower. One machine to replace haybine, brushhog and sickle mower. You have to understand here in Lancaster Pa its hard to break tradition. Hay "has" to be conditioned to take advantage of 3 day window. Of course, if I feel the need to condition I can always pick up one of the old hay conditioners that are still available around here. The Amish use them still. Any recomendations on make of discmower?

Lely Disc mowers are very good , a slightly more 'beefed up' version of them is sold by Vermeer in N. America. I had a Lely Optimo ( 2.4 metre cut, 7 foot 10 inch in old money) with the flail conditioner and in all sorts of thick tangled rain laid crops , ( I am in England remember LOL ) hand on my heart I can't remember bunging it up once.The shaft driven gearbox reduces power requirement too. The MF 168 we had handled it in 1st. gear high range without a murmur.

You can take a 3 point drum or disc mower and a tedder and put up grass hay as quick as anyone even with the expensive discbine mower conditioners. We harvest close to 1000 acres a year and use only disc mowers and tedders. We average 50" of rain each year so only in FL. do they have more rain fall.
