Shortening PTO Shaft

You asked why I had to shorten the shaft. I don't know; I'm new at this. The Lucknow has 3pt hitch pins inboard and outboard on the heavy angle of the blower chassis. My chains wouldn't let me pick up the outboard pins, so I went with the ones on the inside. This may have changed the dimensions, but I'd think that would lengthen the reach, rather than shorten it.

The donor tractor, however, was a compact Ford, and it might have slightly different geometry. I remember the vendor mentioning some problem with using the inboard pins, but he didn't go into detail.

The mount for the wings is a steel tube, as though they were designed to be removable in a couple of minutes. I'll try to send a photo to illustrate this.

As you noted most reverse gears are 5 times too fast for blowing snow. I asked a Deere Engineer one time about why "R" stood for "race" instead of "reverse". Being from the southern US he had never heard tell of blowing snow or reverse gear being too fast. On a blower that small, the inboard pins will category 0 or I and the outsiders category I or II . I had to pull the category II pins from mine and install cat I on the inside to hook on.

The main thing is to travel slow enough and let the blower throw the snow. Instead of just pushing snow backwards with the auger(s). With just 35 to 40 HP the 435 runs the blower fine with the fan 100% full and pushing snow a little. Haven't used tire chains but let the wheels spin instead of trying to push rather than blowing the snow. They are still making snowblowers and feed mixer wagons just south of Lucknow on Huron County Road #1. Father just had his dual auger blower's bearings replaced two years ago. Too fast a reverse and too much stress on the auger bearings.
