Hi Jon, That engine shouldn't stall even if he runs the cylinders's piston all the way out and holds the control valve in the extend position. That's when I found the problem on my splitter when it wouldn't downshift into the second stage. The pressure wasn't high enough and I tried to adjust the pressure higher and it never changed. When I installed the 4 bolts in the pump
it almost pegged the pressure gauge. Very close tolerances on those pumps. Northern Hydraulics gave me another pump, but it was the same until I called the pump company. Need to follow those instructions. Hal

Hi Hal,
I've never used a splitter with a pump before. So no experience. I always hooked to a tractor. I would think there would be a pressure relief, or something, so the engine wouldn't stall. Thats why I was thinking the engine had an issue. Like it would stall as it makes the transition from part throttle, to wide open. Like a carbed car with a bad accelarator pump.

If I'm thinking correct you needed all four bolts in the pump mount or the pump case would twist just enough to bind the valve so the pump wouldn't kick down to the 2nd stage?
