When it comes to tonnage per hour the Vermeer will have the greatest capacity of any round baler made in the World. The direct feed pick-up on the Vermeer coupled with the bottom roller design can bale at 10+ MPH without bale quality suffering. In fact the Old 1988 model 605 J is yet to be unchallenged by any of the other colors. The new Vermeer M balers dominated sales for 2005 when it was even a down year as well. Round balers sales for 605 balers were 10% below the 10 year average sales figures but yet Vermeer gained a substantial market position. In the Fall of 2006 the New Vermeer Rebel baler likely will be shown at the Sunbelt AG Show. Another New 5'x5' round baler design "The Big O" is slated to be released in 2007.

Hi Doc. Your info is great, but I don't think we have a good sales and support network for Vermeer, up here. Heck, even Rod's favorite isn't well supported here. The main dealer for Claas ceased operations last fall, after the owner was killed in an accident, and the family did not wish to carry on. The Maritimes is pretty spread out ,compared to the American industry. Just the way it is. Keep showing us your good stuff, it may get us thinking some more. Kent

Remember 80% of the hay harvested in the USA is dry round bales. Claas has it's main market following in haylage. When your main product is dry hay it is Hesston, John Deere, New Holland & Vermeer. Claas sells 200-400 balers a year in the USA while the big 4 sell about 2,000 round balers a year.

Vermeer balers are pretty good, but most farmers doing silage bales around here including my self have a baler with a processor or the next baler they buy will have one. 6-7mph in a heavy windrow on my JD 335 is plenty fast for me.

Pretty respectable, Barnrat. The 335 does do a nice job in hay. Neighbor helped me out last summer, and that's what he has. Kent.
