We (Dad and I) just replaced the gaskets on the steering links because they were leaking. According to the manual, there are two seals behind the bushings, plus the fiber seal that is on the outside. I got the impression from the book that you have to take the whole steering box out to replace the seals. However, what we did.. Took off the steering links from the levers. Took off the nut which held the levers. Used a Gear/drum puller to pull the levers off the shafts. New project.. required new tool. We picked up a two rubber seals and two fiber washers from the NH dealer. The rubber washer fit perfectly inside a grooved area between the steering box and the steering shaft. The fiber washer fit over the shafts and between steering box and the levers. Reinstalled the levers and the nut.. the shaft from the steering column has one or two flat spots that match up with the inside of the levers. Again.. not sure if that was the "proper" solution, but we don't have any leaks so far. Took about an hour or two... I'd be interested what solution you ended up with. Kevin '53 Golden Jubilee '49 8N
