They run terribly if you put in upside down. Gas really goes thru very fast and it runs too rich.

Rusty, like the other guys said, the venturi only fits in one way... the right way. However, that right way isn't apparent until the final instant when you try to press the top & bottom sections of the body together and realize that it isn't seating quite right... then you realize that stupid venturi is upside down.

Thanks for confirming my recollection, george. That"s exactly what I remember about the venturi placement. You find out when you try to connect the upper section with the fuel bowl.

I believe the venturi only fits in one way.(It"s been a long time since I had mine apart.) The consequences of having it installed wrong, if that is possible, is that the jetting will not be correct for the delta p (presssure differnce between the fuel bowl pressure and the venturi pressure). If the difference in pressure is not too great, you may be able to adjust for the difference with the main jet adjustment.
But I am pretty sure that the venturi can only go in one way

I understand it only fits one way. I disagree with previous post that taper goes up. I think it is the reverse, the wide flanged neck goes up..There is a reference to a pic somewhere there.

There is a correct way. THis was just discussed two weeks ago. If I remember right the wide end goes up.

Usually the venturi is not symmtrical but tapers more rapidly on one end. With the venturi reversed the engine should run poorly. Its probable that the angled jet that often ends in the middle of the venturi should be at the same height as the narrowest part of the venturi bore because thats where the air velocity will be the highest, the best place to vaporize fuel.
