Use overrun clutch for shredding

Hi Kev and Congrats on the new Ferg!
You may want to operate a shredder with this tractor. Be aware that the PTO is an integral part of the transmission, with its drive gear meshing with the complex that drives the rear wheels. The clutch connects this complex to engine power. When the tractor is moving forward in gear and the PTO is powering a shredder, pressing the clutch obediently disconnects the engine from the transmission. However, power continues to be supplied to the rear wheels from the momentum of the shredder blades via the PTO shaft and the transmission; at this moment, brakes would need to stop not only the (small)forward momentum of the tractor but also the (large)rotational velocity of the shredder blades. I have come very close to destroying my radiator on trees etc from this effect, not to mention mowing down stuff I had not intended to cut. The solution is a $45 extension for the PTO shaft called an overrun clutch. It acts as a big ratchet, isolating the implement and external shaft when they continue to rotate on their own momentum fasster than the internal PTO shaft. This returns control of the internal PTO/transmission assembly to clutch disengagement and throttling down.
