I used and L 59 on a 140 for years. The belt has a twist on both sides and in more than one place. I think there is a 3/4 twist between the belt pulley sheave and the idler pulley on one side and a 1/4 twist in same location on other side, and also twists between the idlers and the mower center pulleys. Don't recall the details better than that, but you definitely need a manual. If you don't have the belt right, you will ruin it. If you have it right and you are using the mower once or twice a week, the belt should last 5 years. And the others below are correct, the belt needs to be really tight. I used to jack the idlers down with with a jack to get the belt good and tight. You can't get it tight enough just pushing down or even using a pry bar unless you have a helper.
