Thanks allot for the reply, Can you tell me exactly where that favorite spot is?

How do you tell if it's a D188, and what other engines did they come with?

Thanks again!

It it's a diesel, I think they only came with 188s. The engine will have a tag on it, down low by the oil pan on the stater side of the engine. Mine has a 207 in it, but I'm the one that installed it. It's possible some of the newer 580s have 207s, but it's basically the same engine as the 188, just a little bigger pistons, a little more horsepower, and stronger rod bearing journals. So, maybe the 207s don't throw rods as easily as the 188s. The 188s are very good engines, but I guess when they DO get worn, they like to throw number three rod, and it tends to come out on the injection-pump side of the block. Just look for a patch of epoxy, or braze. Seems the spot they tend to poke through has no water jacket or oil galleys, so it CAN be patched sucessfully. When I bought my 580CK, the rod was hanging out the side of the original 188 block. Besides the hole in the block, it hit the camshaft and broke it in half.
