Or is there some forward rake?

I need to set this up for machining. The pedestal casting looks like it has a slight angle that would give the king pins a little forward rake or to put it another way, the pivot pin is angled up at the front a few degrees. This would put the top of the king pins back a hair from the bottoms rather than truly vertical. This would make the cross beam of the wide front not exactly vertical but tipped back a little at the top.

Please help so I can decide whether or not to pursue a salvaged pedestal, weld this one or what to do... Thanks, C.

I have just finished rebuilding a wide front for a DC which is the same as yours. I had to have my center rebushed. The hole is sguare with the center axle section and angled up slightly in the front bolster. I will have some pictures of mine on tomorrow night.

What about fore and aft play? in reply to Old Iron Larry, 05-06-2008 16:30:32
The yoke has about a 2" gap and the axle beam is about 1 5/8". In my parts manual, I don't see bushings or washers for that gap. The ball and socket should locate the axle but I still wondered about the extra space in there. Thanks, C.

I just used machine bushings to tighten mine up.
