I just bought a d17. I was wanting to change the oil for the power director, but im not sure what type to use. I would also like to know how much it takes and where to drain it. Thanks in advance for any info.

Bryan you didn't say what Series your D17 is. The Series I & II differed from the Series III that also differed from the Series IV.

To start out with you should but universal trans/hydrualic fluid in your power director. Look for the AGCO/Allis 821XL spec on the pail. If it's a Series I or II, also run that fluid in the hydraulics.

In the Series I & II, the hydrualic and PD compartments were separate. Series III & IV they were combined but took different capacities and had different drains as the Series IV had independent hydraulics with the external pump mounted off the old belt pulley location run off a hollow quill shaft from the clutch.

I left my manuals at the farm and don't remember exactly but I think it's 24 quarts for a Series III and 26 for a Series IV. If you have a Series IV see the link to an older post with pictures of where to drain.
