I have 2 questions, 1. Where do I drain the power director/hand clutch fluid. The manual says to use 26 qts of type A fluid and where can I purchase the filter, is there an after market filter that will work. 2. Where do I drain the tranismision? Manual says to use 24 qts of 80wt. All help would be greatly appriciated. this is a "67" model series IV D-17.

Forgot - oil filters are Fram PH8A or Baldwin B2. Hydraulic filters are Fram PH11 or Baldwin B6. Good luck! Mike

Vernell - I have a Series IV as well. You can put universal trans/hydraulic fluid back in both the transmission/differential case and the torque tube/power director/hydraulic case on a D17. Check that the fluid meets the AGCO/Allis-Chalmers spec called 821XL. As the manual says, originally the transmission/diff took 80/90 gear lube and I still run 80/90 EP gear lube in mine too.

The drain for the trans/diff is in the very center of the underside of the transmission case approximately centered on the axle line. I don't have a good picture that shows you that. The power director case is drained in two places. See the photos below for locations.

third party image If the tractor has power steering, consider changing that as well. The fill hole for that is in front of the radiator. Drain plug is underneath the front on the left side when standing in front of the tractor looking at the radiator. That takes 5 quarts of automatic transmission fluid or the same universal trans/hydrualic fluid. Finally, check the fill on final drives. There are screw in plugs on the inside of the final drive pans for the rear wheels. Fill each with 80/90 EP gear lube until it runs out the hole. Good luck and let us know if you have more questions.

Mike

Since your manual lists oil and capacity, sounds like you have the operator manual- which is good. Service manuals don't normally list that info. The operator manual should also have a page identifying drain and fill locations. Filter- should be able to cross reference the AC number at an auto parts store, NAPA, etc.
